Libra New Moon: Planting Seeds of Intention
October 10, 2026 | Vibe Journal
Every New Moon offers us a moment to begin again. Not necessarily by making dramatic changes or completely reinventing our lives, but by becoming more intentional about what we're choosing to create.
Think of it as opening a fresh page in a journal. You don't have to know how the entire story will unfold before you begin writing.
The October 10 Libra New Moon brings an opportunity to consider what you'd like to welcome into your life, which possibilities you're ready to explore, and how you can begin nurturing those intentions through your everyday choices.
And while Libra is often associated with relationships, harmony, and balance, this New Moon isn't limited to those themes. Where Libra falls in your birth chart reveals a more personal area of life where something new may be ready to take shape.
In this Vibe Journal, we're exploring the astrology behind this lunation, how to work with New Moon intentions, what it means for each rising sign, and a creative ritual that will carry us from the New Moon to the Full Moon.
So grab your journal, your favorite crystals, or whatever helps you settle into your own space.
Let's see what you're ready to begin.
The Astrology Behind the October 10 Libra New Moon
On October 10, 2026, the Sun and Moon meet at approximately 17°22′ Libra, marking the beginning of a new lunar cycle.
In astrology, a New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon come together in the same zodiac sign. Symbolically, this is a moment when our conscious direction and emotional needs have an opportunity to meet.
It's a time to consider where we want to direct our energy next.
But the surrounding planetary influences add some interesting layers to this particular New Moon.
Jupiter in Leo: Making Room for Possibility
Jupiter in Leo forms a supportive sextile to the Libra New Moon, encouraging us to think beyond what feels familiar.
Jupiter is associated with expansion, opportunity, learning, and growth. In Leo, that energy carries themes of creativity, confidence, joy, and personal expression.
This influence invites us to consider possibilities we may have been overlooking.
Perhaps there's a creative idea you've been sitting on, an experience you've wanted to pursue, or something you've been hesitant to believe is possible for you.
You don't need to have everything figured out to begin exploring it.
Sometimes an intention starts with allowing yourself to imagine something different.
Saturn in Aries: Giving Your Intentions Direction
Saturn in Aries adds a more grounded influence to this New Moon.
While Jupiter encourages possibility, Saturn reminds us that meaningful growth often requires patience, responsibility, and consistent effort.
There's a difference between wanting something to change and participating in that change.
This doesn't mean your intentions need to become another list of obligations. It simply encourages you to consider how you can support the things you're hoping to create.
What would it look like to take your intentions seriously without putting unnecessary pressure on yourself?
Even one small, intentional action can begin creating movement.
Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Reconsidering What Matters
Libra is ruled by Venus, making Venus especially relevant to this New Moon.
With Venus retrograde in Scorpio, we're also being invited to revisit our desires, priorities, relationships, and values.
Retrogrades are often associated with reflection and reassessment rather than rushing forward without consideration.
You may find yourself questioning whether something you once wanted still reflects who you are today.
That's not necessarily a setback.
Sometimes creating something new begins with recognizing that your priorities have changed.
Venus Square Mars: Desire Meets Action
Venus also forms a square to Mars in Leo during this period, bringing attention to the relationship between what we want and how we pursue it.
We might feel excited about a possibility while also experiencing frustration, impatience, or uncertainty about how to move toward it.
Rather than treating that tension as a reason to stop, consider what it may be revealing.
Are your actions supporting your desires?
Are you pursuing something because it genuinely matters to you, or because you feel pressured to reach a particular outcome?
The invitation of this New Moon is to bring your intentions, values, and actions into a more conscious relationship with one another.
You can be excited about what's ahead while still giving yourself permission to move thoughtfully.
The Power of New Moon Intentions
There's something beautiful about beginning a new cycle before we can see what it will become.
Astronomically, a New Moon occurs when the Moon is positioned near the Sun in our sky, leaving its illuminated side largely hidden from our view.
The Moon hasn't disappeared. We simply can't see the sunlight reflecting from its surface in the way we do during other lunar phases.
That darkness has become a powerful symbol of beginnings, possibility, and the things developing before they're visible.
And that's where intention setting comes in.
An intention is different from simply making a wish.
A wish expresses something we'd love to experience. An intention gives that desire a direction and invites us to participate in bringing it into our lives.
For example, you might wish for more creativity in your life.
Your intention could be to make time each week to explore something that inspires you.
You might wish for stronger relationships.
Your intention could be to communicate more openly or make space for connections that feel mutually supportive.
The intention becomes something you can nurture through your choices.
Planting Your Seeds
Think of your intentions as seeds.
You don't plant a seed and expect it to become a fully grown plant overnight.
You give it attention, create conditions that support it, and allow it time to develop.
The same approach can be applied to your intentions.
For this New Moon, consider choosing one to three intentions that genuinely matter to you.
They don't have to be impressive, dramatic, or life changing.
They simply need to reflect something you're ready to welcome, explore, or strengthen.
As the Moon begins waxing toward fullness, you can revisit those intentions and notice the opportunities you have to support them.
And remember, not everything you begin during a New Moon needs to reach completion by the Full Moon.
Some things take an entire season.
Others take much longer.
The point isn't to race toward an outcome.
It's to begin with purpose.
What Are You Ready to Call In?
A new beginning doesn't always announce itself with a major life event.
Sometimes it's a new perspective, a healthier habit, a creative idea, or a different way of approaching something you've been doing for years.
Before choosing your intentions, consider what you genuinely want more of in your life.
Start With What You Want to Grow
Rather than focusing entirely on what you want to eliminate or avoid, try expressing your intention through what you'd like to develop.
For example:
Instead of: "I don't want to feel so overwhelmed."
Try: "I intend to create more breathing room and balance in my everyday life."
Instead of: "I don't want to keep doubting myself."
Try: "I intend to trust my abilities and approach new opportunities with greater confidence."
Instead of: "I don't want to feel disconnected from people."
Try: "I intend to nurture meaningful connections where I feel comfortable being myself."
Instead of: "I don't want to keep putting my ideas off."
Try: "I intend to make space to explore my creativity and bring more of my ideas to life."
You aren't pretending challenges don't exist.
You're simply choosing where you'd like to direct your attention and energy.
Let Your Intentions Reflect Your Current Season
Your intentions don't need to resemble anyone else's.
One person may be ready to launch a new project, while another is learning how to slow down and enjoy what they've already created.
Someone might be opening themselves to new relationships, while someone else is discovering the value of spending more time alone.
Neither experience is more meaningful than the other.
Consider where you are right now, rather than where you think you should be.
Choose an Intention You Can Participate In
You can't control every outcome, but you can choose how you show up for the things that matter to you.
If your intention involves creativity, perhaps you begin by setting aside time to make something.
If it involves connection, maybe you reach out to someone you've been meaning to spend time with.
If it involves learning, you could explore a subject that's been catching your attention.
Your actions don't have to be enormous to be meaningful.
And if you're unsure where to begin, your rising sign may offer some inspiration.

Making Your Intention Your Own

You may connect deeply with the themes of your house, or you may already have a completely different intention in mind.
Both are perfectly fine.
Use these suggestions as inspiration and allow your own experiences to guide you.
Letters Between the Moons: A New Moon Intention Ritual
For this New Moon, I wanted to create something a little different.
Something that doesn't end when the candle goes out.
Something you can return to, interact with, and eventually open again beneath the Full Moon.
Letters Between the Moons is a two part ritual that begins with the Libra New Moon on October 10 and continues through the Full Moon on October 26.
You'll create a small vessel to hold your intentions, write a message to your future self, and use a ribbon to mark the moments when you take meaningful steps toward what you're creating.
When the Full Moon arrives, you'll open everything and discover what the past two weeks have brought.
The best part?
You get to make it completely your own.
Gathering Your Ritual Materials
You'll need a small jar, decorative box, or another container that can be closed.
You'll also need two small pieces of paper, a pen, a candle or LED candle, and a ribbon, string, or piece of twine.
Gather some dried herbs or flowers of your choosing, along with one or more crystals that feel meaningful to your intention.
You can also include decorations to personalize your vessel if you'd like.
Choosing Your Candle
There isn't one candle color everyone needs to use.
Choose a color that represents what you're hoping to welcome.
Here are a few traditional symbolic associations for inspiration:
White: Clarity, peace, and new beginnings
Green: Growth, prosperity, and abundance
Pink: Self love, compassion, and connection
Purple: Intuition and spiritual growth
Blue: Communication, tranquility, and understanding
Yellow: Confidence, creativity, and inspiration
Use what you already have. A simple white candle or an LED candle works beautifully.
Choosing Your Herbs and Flowers
Dried botanicals can add another personal layer to your ritual.
You might choose:
Rosemary: Clarity, protection, and remembrance
Lavender: Peace and relaxation
Rose petals: Love and compassion
Bay leaves: Success and wishes
Chamomile: Patience and calm
Basil: Prosperity and protection
You can use one, combine a few, or substitute something personally meaningful.
Choosing Your Crystals
If you enjoy working with crystals, select stones that connect with your intentions.
Some possibilities include:
Moonstone: New beginnings and intuition
Clear Quartz: Clarity and focus
Amethyst: Peace and reflection
Rose Quartz: Love and compassion
Citrine: Confidence, creativity, and abundance
Green Aventurine: Opportunity and prosperity
These associations are symbolic ways to connect with your intention, not promises of a particular outcome.
And remember, you don't need to buy anything new to make this ritual meaningful.
Your personal connection to the materials matters more than following an exact list.
Part One: Beneath the New Moon | October 10
Step 1: Prepare Your Space
Find a comfortable place where you can spend a few uninterrupted moments.
Arrange your materials however feels right to you.
You might place your crystals around your container, scatter a few dried flowers nearby, or simply set everything on a clean surface.
Light your chosen candle, or switch on your LED candle.
Take a moment to settle in and consider what you're ready to welcome during this lunar cycle.
Step 2: Write Your Intention
On your first piece of paper, write the intention you've chosen for this New Moon.
Keep it personal and specific enough to feel meaningful.
Underneath your intention, write one action you're willing to take to support it.
For example:
"My intention is to make more room for creativity in my life.
I will support this by setting aside time each week to create something simply because I enjoy it."
Once you've finished, fold the paper toward yourself, symbolically welcoming that intention into your life.
Place it inside your container.
Step 3: Write a Letter to Your Full Moon Self
Now take your second piece of paper.
This one is a little different.
You're going to write a letter to the version of yourself who will open this vessel beneath the October 26 Full Moon.
Think of it as sending a message forward through the lunar cycle.
You could begin with:
"Dear Full Moon Me,
I hope that over these past two weeks, you've..."
Or:
"When you open this, I want you to remember..."
Write whatever feels natural.
Maybe you want to encourage yourself to stay curious, remind yourself why this intention matters, or express excitement about what could unfold.
You can include hopes, encouragement, or a little message that will make your future self smile.
There's no need to predict what will happen.
You're simply creating a moment of connection between who you are today and who you'll be when you open the letter.
Fold your letter and place it inside the container beside your intention.
Don't reopen it until the Full Moon.
Step 4: Add Your Herbs and Crystals
Choose the dried herbs, flowers, and crystals that connect with your intention.
As you add them to your vessel, take a moment to consider what each represents to you.
For example, if your intention involves creative confidence, you might include citrine and a little dried basil.
If you're welcoming more peace into your daily life, perhaps amethyst and lavender feel more appropriate.
There are no required combinations.
You can also keep your crystals outside the vessel if they're too large or if you prefer to arrange them around it.
Make this part personal.
Step 5: Seal Your Intention
Close your container and wrap your ribbon or twine around it.
Tie your first knot.
This knot represents the moment you've chosen to begin.
If you enjoy speaking words aloud during rituals, you can use this invocation:
Beneath this New Moon, I plant my intention.
With patience and purpose, I welcome its beginning.
May my actions nurture what I hope to grow.
And when the Moon is full, may I recognize how far I've come.
Take one final moment with your vessel, then safely extinguish your candle.
Your ritual has begun.
Part Two: The Knots Between the Moons
Here's where this ritual becomes something you continue working with.
Between October 10 and October 26, keep your vessel somewhere you'll occasionally see it.
Whenever you take a meaningful action toward your intention, tie another knot in the ribbon.
Maybe you finally start that project.
Maybe you have a conversation you've been meaning to have.
Maybe you make time for something that brings you joy, explore a new opportunity, or take a small step toward a goal.
Each knot becomes a reminder of a moment when you participated in what you're creating.
And don't worry about how many knots you end up with.
This isn't a competition, a productivity challenge, or a measure of how successful your intention has been.
Some intentions develop through visible actions.
Others unfold quietly.
The knots simply give you a creative way to acknowledge the moments that matter to you.
Part Three: Opening Your Letters | October 26 Full Moon
When the Full Moon arrives on October 26, return to your vessel.
Find a comfortable place, light your candle if you'd like, and take a moment to look at the ribbon.
Notice the knots you've tied.
Think about the experiences, choices, and moments they represent.
Then slowly untie your ribbon and open your container.
First, read your original intention.
How does it feel to read those words now?
Does the intention still resonate?
Has anything shifted in how you understand it?
Next, open the letter from your New Moon self.
Read the message you wrote two weeks earlier.
Notice what stands out.
Maybe something you've been hoping for has started taking shape.
Maybe you've discovered something unexpected.
Maybe your priorities have changed, or perhaps you've realized that what you wanted requires more time.
All of those experiences are worth acknowledging.
If you'd like, close your ritual with these words:
What began in darkness, I now meet with awareness.
I honor the steps I've taken and the lessons I've gathered.
What is still growing, I will continue to nurture.
What has changed, I give myself permission to understand.
You can keep your letters in your journal, save your ribbon, or hold on to your vessel for another lunar cycle.
And if something you've begun still needs time to grow, there's no reason you can't continue nurturing it.
A Little Ritual Safety Reminder
Keep dried herbs, flowers, paper, and ribbons away from open flames. Never heat a closed glass container, and always extinguish candles before leaving them unattended. LED candles are a great alternative.
A Little New Moon Reflection
Before you begin your ritual, take a moment to check in with yourself.
You don't need to dig deep or have all the answers. Sometimes a few simple questions are enough to help you connect with what you're ready to welcome.
1. What is something new I'd love to experience or explore?
2. What would I like to make more room for in my everyday life?
3. What is one thing I'm genuinely excited about in the weeks ahead?
Let your answers come naturally. You might even discover a little inspiration for your New Moon intention.
Remember, this is your opportunity to dream, create, and welcome possibility. It doesn't have to feel like work.
Until the Moon Is Full...
Every new beginning starts somewhere.
Sometimes it's a big decision, an unexpected opportunity, or a leap into something unfamiliar. Other times, it's a quiet promise we make to ourselves when no one else is watching.
This New Moon is an invitation to honor those beginnings, no matter how small they may seem.
As you move through the coming weeks, remember that your intentions aren't deadlines. They're seeds you've chosen to nurture, and growth doesn't always follow a predictable path.
Let yourself enjoy the process. Experiment. Create. Follow your curiosity. Celebrate the little moments that remind you you're moving toward something meaningful.
And if you've created your Letters Between the Moons vessel, remember that there's a message waiting for you on October 26.
A little piece of who you are today, ready to meet the person you'll be beneath the Full Moon.
Until then, stay curious, trust your intentions, and give yourself room to grow.
The Moon may be dark tonight, but that doesn't mean nothing is growing.
Keep creating, keep exploring, and as always, trust your own vibe.
